URGENT questions about the NEW
LAW regarding spouse/common-law/conjugal
partner sponsership to Canada.
Q1: The term "conjugal
partner" meaning a person
is residing outside Canada and
I have maintained a conjugal
relationship for at least 1
yr and not cohabited with him.
Does this mean a boyfriend?
My boyfriend is actually in
HK now and we have never lived
together. Should I sponsor him
as my "conjugal partner"
or should I get married with
him first and sponsor as my
"spouse" ? Which is
better/safer?
A1: Your boyfriend might fall
in the category of "conjugal
partner" if you really
have established and maintained
a conjugal relationship. You'd
better marry him first and then
sponsor him as your spouse.
Q2: Which Case Processing Ctr(CPC)
should I send the app. to? On
the form it says I should send
to Mississauga. I heard that
Buffalo is faster, but I phoned
the CPC and he says Buffalo
is for independent immigration,
for spouse case should send
to Mississauga ON (or Alberta
if for sponsoring spouse within
Canada).
A2: Mississauga.
Q3: In the new law, I have
to fill out a "spouse/common-law/conjugal
partner questionnaire".
It says I have to provide wedding/engagement
pictures. It also asks whether
I have any wedding/engagement
ceremonies. So if I sponsor
my "conjugal partner",
do I need to have engagement
ceremony? Does this apply for
spouse/common-law case only?
A3: Although you don't have
to have an engagement CEREMONY,
how can you prove that you have
established a conjugal relationship
with him? Any witness?
